Etoricoxib is a selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor belonging to the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) class. It selectively inhibits COX-2 enzyme activity, leading to reduced synthesis of prostaglandins responsible for pain, inflammation, and fever. Due to its COX-2 selectivity, it produces less gastrointestinal irritation compared with non-selective NSAIDs. Etoricoxib provides analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic effects in various musculoskeletal disorders. It is indicated for osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, acute gouty arthritis, and acute pain management.
