دواعي استعمال الدواء:
يستخدم لمنع وعلاج الغثيان والقيء والترجيع.
يقلل القيء والغثيان بعد العمليات الجراحية والتخدير.
يُستعمل في حالات القيء الشديد المرتبط بالعلاج الإشعاعي.
يساعد في السيطرة على القيء الشديد في بعض حالات النزلات المعوية.
قد يُستخدم لتقليل القيء لدى المرضى الذين يتلقون أدوية قوية تسبب الغثيان.
يستعمل أحياناً في الطوارئ للسيطرة على القيء المستمر لمنع الجفاف.
قد يصفه الأطباء لبعض حالات القيء الشديد أثناء الحمل تحت إشراف طبي.
Ondansetron is a selective 5-HT3 (serotonin) receptor antagonist used primarily as an antiemetic.
It works by blocking serotonin receptors located on vagal nerve terminals in the gastrointestinal tract and in the chemoreceptor trigger zone of the brain.
Chemotherapy, radiation, and surgical procedures can trigger serotonin release from enterochromaffin cells in the small intestine, activating the vomiting reflex.
By inhibiting 5-HT3 receptor activation, ondansetron suppresses the neural signals responsible for nausea and vomiting.
It is mainly indicated for prevention and treatment of chemotherapy-induced, radiotherapy-induced, and postoperative nausea and vomiting (CINV, RINV, and PONV).
